“This program helped me realize that what kind of person I become is more important than what kind of job I have.”

Hyundai Doosan Infracore, a subsidiary of Hyundai Heavy Industries Group’s Construction Equipment Unit, had time to look back on the past ten years of 'Dream School,’ a youth mentoring program.

On November 19 (Friday), Hyundai Doosan Infracore held a performance briefing session on the 10th anniversary of the Dream School in the main auditorium of its Bundang head office building. Attending the event included Cho Heung-shik, Chairman of the Community Chest of Korea, Cho Myung-hwan, Chairman of World Vision, Cho Young-cheol, President of Hyundai Doosan Infracore, and Dream School participants.

Dream School is a mentoring program, which Hyundai Doosan Infracore has been conducting for young people to find their dreams since 2012 with World Vision, an international relief and development NGO. The program supports local youths in Seoul, Incheon, and Gunsan, where the company operates local units to shape their career paths and pursue their dreams by providing various experiences.

With 404 Hyundai Doosan Infracore employees and 487 experts participating as mentors and 459 youths as mentees, the Dream School program helped 350 young people find dreams that match their aptitude before entering society.

The performance briefing session included the introduction of mentoring program activities for the past 10 years, the outcomes of research on the growth of mentors and mentees who participated in the program, case presentations by participants, and expert panel discussion to share the value and meaning of the program.

The session showed a video of a young mentee participant saying, “Meeting the police, prosecutors, and personal trainers with the mentor and participating in the fitness competition after deciding on a career path made me realize what kind of person I become is more important than having a job. I feel that I have a solid foundation for my future life.”

“It is the role of adults and society to help young people who will lead our society develop their dreams,” said Hyundai Doosan Infracore CEO Jo Young-cheol said. “I would like to express my gratitude to all the program personnel, including the mentors for investing their personal time and the young people, for being sincere mentees, and assure that the alliance of our employees and youths for a 'better future' will continue.”

On November 20, following the performance briefing session, the mentor and mentee participants of the past Dream School activities gathered online and held the Homecoming Day event to celebrate the program’s 10th anniversary, such as looking back on 10 years and communicating in each region.
