CEO Cho Young-cheol of Hyundai Genuine (an intermediate holding company of the Hyundai Heavy Industries Group’s construction equipment affiliates) actively communicates with executives and employees to maximize synergy through the chemical mixing of the three construction equipment affiliates.
Cho held CEO Connect on January 25 to chat online with about 90 new-graduate employees joining the company through the first Integrated Recruitment of three construction equipment affiliates (Hyundai Genuine, Hyundai Construction Equipment, and Hyundai Doosan Infracore). As the channel created by the CEO in December last year to communicate with the executives and employees of the three affiliates, CEO Connect has been conducted four times including the latest dialog with the new employees.
On this day, Cho introduced himself to the new employees and answered 100 questions received from them in advance. The questions ranged from the company's business strategy and future vision to the virtues required of new hires and even light questions like his favorite food.
In his greetings, the CEO welcomed the new employees as part of the family of the Heavy Industries Group’s construction machinery unit and encouraged them to “take part in the company’s life with the pride of being the first champions of the first Integrated Recruitment program in the construction machinery division.”
While answering a question about the company’s business strategy and vision, Cho emphasized technology. “It is difficult to say in certain percentage terms, but autonomous and automation are essential technologies that everyone should have expertise in, in the not-too-distant future. We have technologies to commercialize autonomous excavators and forklifts, and we will continue to invest in them aggressively,” he said when asked about the proportion of autonomous and automation in the construction machinery industry.
On January 7, Cho presented a video of his impression of CES 2022 to employees while attending the event held in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA and mentioned technology management. He emphasized the need to secure technologies anew for the new employees.
“My life philosophy is ‘I can only go further with my colleagues.’ While I certainly do my best for the assigned jobs, whenever there were good outcomes such as promotions, I never forgot that I couldn’t have done it without the cooperation of my colleagues but kept expressing my gratitude. That was the secret to my success,” he said when asked about his secret to success as a CEO.
Lastly, when asked about his favorite food, Cho explained that he is not too picky about food, but if he has to choose, it would be Italian cuisine. “Given the opportunity to dine with you after the COVID-19 pandemic ends, I will buy you Italian food with nice wine,” he added. The promise drew an enthusiastic response from the new employees.
Immediately after taking office as Hyundai Genuine CEO last August, Cho Young-cheol gathered suggestions from the employees of the three construction equipment affiliates in areas such as personnel management, organizational culture, and business strategy and shared the follow-ups with them. He is making efforts to stabilize the integration of the three construction equipment affiliates by directly engaging in dialogue with them to ease the anxiety following the transfer of the industrial vehicle (forklift) business. <End>
