The story behind Hyundai Doosan Infracore and Hyundai Construction Equipment joining hands at minus 20 degrees Celsius in Cheorwon 2022-01-17

▶ First joint cold-weather test since the merging of Hyundai Doosan Infracore by the Hyundai Heavy Industries Group

▶ Intensive pre-inspection of poor ignition and electrical device errors, etc., that may occur at cryogenic temperatures

▶ Maximizing synergy by sharing quality know-how of each company, such as cold-weather testing and welding

Two subsidiaries of Hyundai Genuine (construction equipment unit of the Hyundai Heavy Industries Group), Hyundai Doosan Infracore and Hyundai Construction Equipment, conducted the first joint quality inspection since the merging of Hyundai Doosan Infracore by the Hyundai Heavy Industries Group.

Hyundai Doosan Infracore and Hyundai Construction Equipment conducted a cold-weather test for construction equipment in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province for five days from January 10 (Mon.) to 14 (Fri.). The cold-weather test is aimed at checking whether construction equipment parts operate properly in an extremely low-temperature environment.

This field test checked and verified the dynamometer, electric modules, and cockpit interior quality of the new construction equipment of both companies at minus 20 degrees Celsius. Five excavators and wheel loaders by Hyundai Doosan Infracore and four by Hyundai Construction Equipment were tested, with fifteen performance R&D employees from both companies participating in the test.

Since construction equipment is left on the field due to the construction site environment, operators often experience ▲ poor ignition, ▲ unstable operation (engine misalignment and vibration), and ▲ electrical system error at extremely low temperatures. The two companies expect to improve quality by pre-inspecting the equipment’s startability and work performance and the electrical module’s functional error through the cold-weather test.

Hyundai Doosan Infracore conducted the industry’s first cold-weather test in Korea in 2014 and shared its know-how accumulated for the past eight years, such as test items and methods, with Hyundai Construction Equipment through this test.

Hyundai Construction Equipment’s welding experts participated in the recent quality inspection of Hyundai Doosan Infracore’s vendors, sharing welding know-how for vendor quality management of both companies. The two companies continue to maximize synergy by actively utilizing each company’s strengths in quality management.

“This joint cold-weather test was a good opportunity to pre-check the performance of the equipment released by both companies based on the same standards. We plan to utilize each company’s strengths actively to provide high-quality products to customers,” a Hyundai Genuine official said.

In November last year, Hyundai Genuine established the quality operation group in the Technical Division as part of the organizational restructuring to strengthen the functions and roles of the control tower in improving the quality of both companies.
