▶ Korea’s Largest Hydrogen Forklift... Ideal for High-Weight Tasks at Ports and Logistics Centers
▶ 5-Hour Continuous Use with 5-Minute Charge, Smooth Operation Even in Extreme Environments
▶ "We Will Enhance Our Technology by Expanding Our Lineup of Small and Medium-Sized Forklifts and Increasing Operating Hours”
HD Hyundai XiteSolution made its first delivery of a 5-ton large- and mid-sized hydrogen forklift—the largest of its kind in Korea—to a logistics site.
HD Hyundai XiteSolution (CEO Young-cheul Cho) announced on June 3, 2024 (Monday) that it has supplied four 5-ton hydrogen forklifts to the Korea Construction Equipment Technology Institute. The company's 5-ton forklift is the largest of its kind in Korea, and only 3-ton models were previously available in the domestic market.
This equipment was deployed by the Korea Construction Equipment Technology Institute to the Onsan refinery of Korea Zinc, and field tests are to be conducted in July to establish durability and safety standards for hydrogen forklift parts.
With 1.7 times higher loading capacity than that of similar products from domestic manufacturers, the 5-ton hydrogen forklift is expected to be used widely in places like ports and logistics centers where heavy goods need to be transported.
The 50kW hydrogen fuel cell power pack installed on the 5-ton hydrogen forklift can be fully charged in just 5 minutes and can be used continuously for 5 hours. Compared to forklifts using electric batteries that require 4-6 hours of charging, this model is more efficient, and it can operate in extreme environments ranging from -30℃ to 60℃.
The hydrogen forklift industry is also experiencing rapid growth. According to global market research firm Verified Market Research, the hydrogen fuel cell forklift market was valued at USD 377 million (approximately KRW 520 billion) last year but is expected to reach USD 2.255 billion (approximately KRW 3.1 trillion) by 2030.
"HD Hyundai XiteSolution is also expanding its lineup of small and medium-sized hydrogen forklifts, including 1.8-ton and 3.5-ton models, and it has already completed testing for some models. We will also improve the technological completeness of our products by installing solid-state hydrogen storage tanks to extend the operating time," a company official said.
HD Hyundai XiteSolution developed the world's first 5-ton hydrogen forklift model in 2022 in collaboration with the Hyundai Motor Group, targeting launch in 2027.
