Hyundai Genuine Starts its Search for AI Specialists to Advance the Era of Autonomous Excavators 2022-11-27

▶ Will focus on securing next generation technologies through the new ‘AI Convergence Technology Center’ and ‘AI Community Group’

▶ AI Data Challenge scheduled from Nov 7 to Dec 12

Hyundai Genuine (CEO: President Cho Young-cheul) has started its search for AI technologies and specialists to make a head start in the future autonomous construction equipment market.

Hyundai Genuine recently opened its ‘AI Data Challenge’ for employees and the general public under the topic, ‘Model to Classify Oil Quality of Construction Equipment using AI Technology’, which started on Nov 7 and will close on Monday, Dec 12. The grand prize winners will be announced at the end of the month on Friday, Dec 30.

The prize winning models will be used to develop and commercialize a technology that can detect and self-diagnose any abnormalities within the machine by checking its oil status. Hyundai Genuine also plans to use this opportunity find great talents by giving an incentive to award winners that are university students when applying for a position in the three construction equipment companies of Hyundai Heavy Industries Group (Hyundai Genuine, Hyundai Construction Equipment, Hyundai Doosan Infracore.)

Hyundai Genuine has also established an AI dedicated organization in April that will oversee AI technologies of the three construction equipment companies. Named the ‘AI Convergence Technology Center’, its main goal is to secure AI source technologies that can be utilized to develop the world’s first autonomous excavator in addition to other goals such as creating an AI Data Hub, finding and supporting AI challenges for construction equipment and forklifts, and running the AI Community Group.

The AI Community Group is especially noteworthy as it aims to train in-house AI specialists and help apply and spread AI technologies throughout the working level by gathering those interested in this field. The group has been created to accommodate around 150 people and will be providing lectures and practices on AI algorithms, latest technology trends and AI related examples.

A representative of Hyundai Genuine mentioned, “AI related unmanned technologies will become key items in the future construction equipment market,” and added, “It will therefore require the company as a whole to work on securing source technologies and great talents.”

Meanwhile, Hyundai Genuine will complete developing its integrated platform for the Hyundai Heavy Industry Group’s construction equipment businesses and release an AI smart technology applied integrated model by 2025. <EOD>
